Graduate Summer Wade Internship in Paper Conservation – Intermuseum Conservation Association (ICA)
Listing Start Date: February 15, 2025
Expires: March 15, 2025
Graduate Summer Wade Internship in Paper Conservation
The Intermuseum Conservation Association (ICA) in Cleveland, Ohio is seeking a candidate with a desire to do serious bench-work for an 8 to 10-week internship in paper conservation funded by the Wade Foundation.
This internship is designed for graduate students who have completed at a minimum their first year in an accredited master’s program in art conservation. This is a prototype project with dual goals: to make conservation and preservation more affordable for nonprofit institutions that need it, and to provide training for the next generation of conservation students by giving them the opportunity to complete a major treatment, under the supervision of qualified professionals.
ICA is an open lab with a dynamic group of professionals and occasional multi-disciplinary projects, thus the robust curriculum is designed so that, over the course of the year, the student may have opportunities to perform minor treatments, as appropriate, in other specialties. More than that, the summer intern will come to understand what it means to be a conservator in practice. The student will have opportunities to interact with the institutional collections care professionals and volunteers, and the public who bring projects to the lab. The student will learn how to assess projects, produce treatment proposals, and write treatment reports. There will also be opportunities to gain more experience in documentation, photography, the construction of archival boxes and mounts, and to participate in the educational outreach programs offered by the lab.
For a complete description of the project, additional information about the selected project, and ICA, please see the attached file.
Funding
This internship offers a salary of $25/hour with no additional benefits. ICA can also offer up to an additional $1,000 for relocation. The intern is expected work a 35 hour week for eight to ten weeks depending on availability
