Made possible by a generous gift from the Leon Levy Foundation, the Conservation Division of the New York Public Library (NYPL) is pleased to announce the Shelby White and Leon Levy Conservation Fellowship, a two year, full time, post-graduate conservator position with benefits starting in September 2025.
The inaugural Shelby White and Leon Levy Conservation Fellowship will focus on books or photographic materials and will provide a newly graduated conservator the opportunity to collaborate, learn, contribute to, and work in a vibrant and full conservation lab that supports the varied, unique, and immense collections of NYPL’s three research centers. In addition, the Conservation Division will provide support for professional development.
This position is located in the Library’s Conservation Division, located in Long Island City, Queens, in New York City. The staff of the Conservation Division consists of a team of conservators and technicians specializing in bound, flat, and photographic materials. The Shelby White and Leon Levy Conservation Fellow will report to either the Senior Book Conservator, Ursula Mitra, or the Senior Photograph Conservator, Hanako Murata, as appropriate.

Salary: $50,000-$53,000 + benefits
Location: New York City (Long Island City, NY)
Duration: 2-year term maximum (September 2025 to September 2027)
