Preventive Conservator / Preventive Conservation Specialist

The Midwest Art Conservation Center (MACC) in Minneapolis, MN seeks applicants for a preventive conservator or preventive conservation specialist. This is 2-year, full-time position with option for renewal.

MACC is a nonprofit center providing comprehensive services in Paintings, Objects, Paper, Textiles, and Preventive Conservation. The staff of thirteen is collaborative, collegial, and works innovatively with the curatorial and collection professionals at hundreds of non-profit collecting institutions including fine art museums, historical societies, universities, Native cultural centers, city governments, libraries, and archives. In addition, MACC works with private individuals and businesses. MACC laboratories and offices are located within the Minneapolis Institute of Art.

As an active member of the department, the preventive conservator/specialist will complete General Preservation Assessments, assist in the supervision of Fellows, develop and lead workshops on preventive conservation topics, aid in emergency response activities, and consult with clientele. The conservator/specialist will also provide collection-appropriate recommendations in the following areas:

·       Environmental Control and Monitoring

·       Safe Handling, Storage, and Exhibition

·       Integrated Pest Management

·       Emergency Preparedness and Response

·       Reformatting and Duplication

The conservator/specialist will travel offsite as needed to carry out assessments, provide workshops, and consult on larger projects such as storage expansions.

Applicants must have an advanced degree in art conservation or a related field and demonstrate a strong interest in preventive conservation. A minimum of 2 years post graduate experience is preferred. The position provides an annual salary of $63,000 along with generous benefits including medical, dental, 403B contributions, vacation and sick time, AIC membership, and professional development. The position is open to US citizens and others with legal eligibility to work in the US.
