Position Overview:
ArtCare Conservation Miami, is seeking a skilled and passionate Paper Conservator to join our esteemed conservation studio. The candidate will be working alongside the dedicated team of painting conservators and technicians and have the opportunity to collaborate with staff in all three ArtCare studios to establish a Paper Conservation lab. This lead role involves laying the foundation for a paper conservation lab, the assessment, conservation, and restoration of paper-based artworks, including but not limited to prints, drawings, watercolors, and manuscripts.
Requirements
Key Responsibilities:
Conduct thorough examinations of artworks to assess their condition and determine the necessary conservation treatments.
Develop and implement conservation strategies that adhere to ethical standards and best practices.
Perform a range of conservation treatments, including cleaning, stabilizing, repairing, and in-painting, with attention to preserving the integrity and aesthetics of each artwork.
Document all treatments through detailed reports and photographic records.
Collaborate with curators, art handlers, and other conservators to ensure the proper handling and storage of artworks.
Stay updated on advancements in conservation science and participate in research projects when applicable.
Engage in outreach activities, such as workshops or lectures, to promote the importance of conservation.
Qualifications:
Master’s degree in paper conservation, from a recognized institution.
A minimum of 3 years of professional experience in a museum, gallery, or private conservation studio.
Demonstrated expertise in a wide range of conservation techniques and materials.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to make informed decisions.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, capable of working collaboratively within a team.
A commitment to ongoing professional development and ethical practice.
